How to print an elevation profile (A4, A5, roadbook)

A profile on paper fits in a roadbook, a jersey pocket or a map holder. Here's how to get a clean PDF of your route, in A4 landscape or A5, and print it at the right scale.

In four steps

  1. Get the GPX of your route; if needed, the guide on exporting a GPX shows where to find it.
  2. Set up the image in the tool to create an elevation profile from GPX: landscape format, title, feed stops, climbs, gel reminders. The Classic theme, on a white background, uses the least ink.
  3. Choose the PDF page “A4 landscape” for a full sheet, “A5 landscape (roadbook)” for half a sheet. The PDF downloads with your e-mail; PNGs stay free.
  4. Print at 100% in the print dialog, choose actual size (100%), not “fit to page”, to keep the intended margins.

The PDF is vector, so text and profile stay sharp even enlarged. For a version that goes on the bike rather than on paper, there are the custom top tube stickers.

Frequently asked questions

Is the PDF free?

Yes. It only asks for an e-mail address; getting news from the site is a separate, unticked box.

Can I print in black and white?

Yes. The Classic theme, on a white background, gives the most readable result in black and white.
